Hi

In his honor, I share with you my favorite photo of him - for I too look this way when there is ice cream. No shame.

Today, Simba is taking a break from his normal blog duties to allow a guest writer - Me! I've never met Simba, but - I sure know a lot about the guy. He's in ways, a brother to me, and in others, a son.

He came into my life almost 2 years ago, when I went to coffee with his mom. She told me all about his quirks, and his strength, and their fight. Little did I know then that I would become close to Simba, despite that he left this life only a few days later. Just as "every action has a reaction", I believe every soul leaves a mark. Just as a meteor falls from earth and leaves behind a crater, Simba left behind a big impression of himself here.

I saw it first in his Mother, whose tears have many times fell to rest on my shoulder. Stories of his time spent at the park, carefree as he chased balls and stretched his legs. The times he slept, peacefully and patient as he awaited his next round of medication, or for his mom to come home and play. He left behind an impression on the world which far outsizes the times and spaces he graced with his presence.

Though I have not felt his slobbery kisses, or his demanding nudges - there lives in me an impression of what remains of him here. This blog, these words, and the stories I contribute towards his maintaining his presence are all remnants of him, left behind in his mother - and ultimately, brought here through me.

I do not write his stories,
I only make them known.

(The image I chose for the banner was shot in Oakland, overlooking the bay. I selected it in honor of the adventure from that day, which he would have enjoyed.)
